Who We Are
A pathway for human talent to achieve sustainable growth in society and the business world
Bridging L&D (Learning and Development) and Real-World Business
KoreaPEN is the Central Office for PEN Worldwide in South Korea, dedicated to preparing individuals for employment and entrepreneurship through hands-on experience in the Practice Enterprise (PE) network. Established in November 2011 and mentored by the German Central Office, KoreaPEN has officially operated as the Korean Central Office since 2017. It aims to enhance global business readiness by providing practical, experience-based learning opportunities.
At the core of KoreaPEN’s approach is the opportunity for participants to experience real-world business before entering the job market or starting their own business. In the Practice Enterprises, participants take on roles as company employees or co-founders, experiencing first-hand what it’s like to manage and operate a business. This allows them to engage in product planning, management, accounting/finance, marketing, sales/purchasing, human resources, research and development, design, IP (intellectual property), and ESG (environment, social, and governance)—all while gaining valuable, practical knowledge that can be applied in actual careers or startups.
One of the biggest advantages of participating in a Practice Enterprise is the ability to learn from failure. In these environments, participants encounter real challenges and mistakes, which provides them with the opportunity to learn and adapt. This hands-on learning experience is invaluable for preparing individuals to tackle the realities of the business world, whether in employment or as entrepreneurs. By tackling problems, improving operations, and overcoming setbacks, participants develop key skills such as problem-solving, communication, and collaboration.
In addition, KoreaPEN leverages its global PE network to provide participants with international business experience. Collaborating with 7,000 practice enterprises across 42 countries, participants can engage in trade simulations and experience the global business environment, fostering their understanding of international markets and cultures.
Our Uniqueness: Comprehensive and Hybrid Approach to Practical Experience
KoreaPEN stands out for its step-by-step program that includes Culture Deck, R&R, and Project Experience, offering a structured pathway to mastering key business competencies. This program allows participants to progressively develop essential skills, from understanding corporate culture to taking on real business challenges through hands-on project work.
Additionally, KoreaPEN’s hybrid internship model combines face-to-face and remote work environments, giving participants the flexibility to experience work in both physical and virtual settings. This unique approach ensures that participants gain well-rounded, adaptable skills necessary for success in today’s dynamic business landscape.
Upon completing the program, participants are awarded certificates from PEN Worldwide and other respected institutions, providing formal recognition of their expertise in business operations and entrepreneurship. This certification serves as a testament to their readiness to take on professional challenges and
Through real business experience, KoreaPEN helps individuals and organizations achieve growth and success, training global talents capable of navigating the rapidly changing socioeconomic landscape.
What We Do
-
We provide comprehensive support for establishing and operating Practice Enterprises (PE), where trainees experience the tasks of employees and/or co-founders in a real-world business environment. These programs include on-site job training, practical entrepreneurship training, and development programs for both new and existing employees. The purpose of PE is to offer trainees hands-on experience in workplace tasks and the process of starting up a business, equipping them with valuable skills for their professional growth.
-
We develop and provide operational support for services that create an experience and environment similar to that of a real business. This includes groupware, Practice Enterprise banking (PEN Banking), tax management, web shops, recruitment, and various collaboration tools. Additionally, we offer tools for global business ecosystems, such as international communication platforms, global supply chain management systems, and multi-currency payment solutions, enabling trainees to experience the dynamics of a global enterprise.
-
We offer specialized training programs for coaches, who play key roles in managing and guiding the operations of Practice Enterprises (PE). In PE, the term "coach" is used instead of "teacher" or "facilitator" to emphasize their role in guiding trainees through hands-on experiences in job roles and the startup process.
-
We organize global Practice Enterprise (PE) events, including trade exhibitions, competitions, and international training programs, to create an immersive learning environment that fosters global collaboration and development.
-
We award internationally recognized certificates upon the successful completion of Practice Enterprise (PE) programs, validating participants' skills and achievements on a global scale.
KoreaPEN aims to support practical and effective preparation for employment and entrepreneurship, helping individuals and organizations achieve greater growth and success in a rapidly changing world.
A Message from the CEO
“In an era defined by digital transformation, KoreaPEN is equipping students to navigate an ever-changing job market. As the Korean Central Office of the PEN Worldwide Organization, we are part of a global network of over 7,000 practice enterprises across more than 40 countries. Through this network, students gain hands-on experience in all areas of a company, explore entrepreneurial roles, and even launch their own businesses.
Our program integrates seamlessly with modern educational methods, including project-based learning, creative problem-solving, and flipped classrooms. By bridging the gaps in traditional field training and internships, we empower students with self-directed work experiences that prepare them for real-world challenges.
Since our founding in 2011, we have pioneered innovative initiatives, such as a hybrid internship model tailored for Korea during the COVID-19 pandemic. These efforts have strengthened partnerships with schools and businesses, contributing to the growth and learning of youth both locally and globally.
Looking ahead, KoreaPEN remains committed to developing innovative educational solutions and building a brighter future for the next generation.”
Minjung Kim, CEO of KoreaPEN
